Overall victory and two more podium finishes for AVIA W&S Motorsport in the ADAC GT4 Germany at the Red Bull Ring

With an overall victory and second place overall in the ADAC GT4 Germany at the Red Bull Ring, Finn Zulauf and Josef Knopp in the AVIA racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport #31 kept the fight for the championship open until the season finale and significantly reduced the gap to the leader. In a thrilling first race, the AVIA W&S Motorsport drivers impressively prevailed against the competition and secured their second overall victory of the season. Their team-mates Max Kronberg and Hendrik Still (#30) secured another double podium for the Ofterdingen-based racing team with third place overall. Zulauf and Knopp also won the Junior classification, while Kronberg took first place in the Trophy classification.

In the second race on Sunday, the youngsters started from pole position and once again scored plenty of championship points with second place overall and second place in the Junior class. While they were still 38 points behind the championship leader before the penultimate race weekend, they were only 17 points adrift afterwards.

Alon Gabbay and Tano Neumann in the #9 continued their upward trend and again finished in the top 10 in both races, crossing the finish line in seventh place on Saturday and seventh on Sunday.

Senna Summerbell and Tommi Gore (#32) contested their second race weekend with the team of Patrick Wagner and Daniel Schellhaas and were also able to show a rising performance curve. They finished 14th in race 1 and achieved another top 10 result in the second race with eighth place.

For Max Kronberg and Hendrik Still, Sunday's race was over after the first lap following an accident and they were unable to repeat their success of the previous day.

In the drivers' standings, second-placed Finn Zulauf and Josef Knopp have reduced the gap to the leaders to 17 points and will attack once again at the finale in Hockenheim (October 18-20, 2024) to secure the crown. The pair are in the lead in the Junior standings with 190 points. Max Kronberg (316.5 points) leads the Trophy Championship table ahead of his team-mate Tano Neumann (282). AVIA W&S Motorsport is in second place in the team championship, just eleven points behind the first-placed team.

Quotes after the race

Daniel Schellhaas, Team Principal AVIA W&S Motorsport: “It was a very successful weekend and a strong team result at the Red Bull Ring. Finn and Josef were able to significantly reduce the gap in the championship and keep the fight open until the finale in Hockenheim. Max and Hendrik completed the double podium on Saturday. Unfortunately, they were involved in a collision in the second race and scored no points. We are very pleased for Alon and Tano that they are developing so well and have once again achieved two strong results. Senna and Tommi took a step forward and were on course for the podium at one point. Many thanks to everyone in the team for their great and good work! We will go on the attack again in Hockenheim and want to win the title!”

Alon Gabbay, Driver #9: “We have had a good weekend! It started well with fifth place in qualifying on Saturday. Later in Race 1 I had some good battles for positions and I am happy that we managed to finish in seventh place. Race 2 was not easy. After a lot of incidents from the competition, I handed the car over to Tano in sixth place and he crossed the line in seventh. Another good result for us and my thanks go to my team, my teammate Tano and my coach Marvin.”

Max Kronberg, Driver #30: “We are very happy about another overall podium at the Red Bull Ring. The team did a great job and provided us with a perfectly prepared car. Many thanks for that! Unfortunately, the second race was over early after an accident and we were unable to score any points. Our focus is now on Hockenheim, where we will attack again and want to repeat our overall victory from last year.”

Finn Zulauf, Driver #31: “It was an extremely successful and great weekend at the Red Bull Ring. As always, the team and Josef did a mega good job and I am really looking forward to Hockenheim. We were able to significantly reduce the gap to the leaders and have created a good starting position for the final race weekend.”

Tommi Gore, Driver #32: “Overall, it was another great weekend with W&S Motorsport. We made great progress and finally showed that we have the pace to fight at the front. Qualifying in fourth place and fighting for the podium in the second race were definitely the highlights of the weekend for me! I hope that we can build on this momentum at the last race in Hockenheim and finish the year with a good result! Many thanks to the W&S Motorsport team for their support this weekend and to all our fans who supported us via the live streams and at the track!”
