Maxmore W&S Motorsport celebrates a perfect start to the China GT Championship with four victories in the GTS class (GT4) during the first two race weekends. Moritz Berrenberg holds a commanding lead in the championship standings at the season’s halfway point.

At the season opener, Moritz Berrenberg and Finn Zulauf competed together in the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS and dominated the weekend from the beginning. The duo secured pole position and won both races. “The first race was somewhat chaotic with multiple safety car interventions disrupting our rhythm. But Finn did a fantastic job and handed the car over to me with a solid lead,” explained Berrenberg. Despite the team having to observe a longer minimum pit stop time due to driver classification, Berrenberg maintained the lead position and brought home the victory.

The second race of the opening weekend started behind the safety car due to damp track conditions. “I immediately felt confident with the car’s handling and grip. I was able to push from the very beginning, build a strong gap, and hand the car over to Finn while leading,” said Berrenberg.

For the second race weekend in Shanghai, Berrenberg took on a special challenge by competing solo in both races. In the first race, he started from second position and took the lead before the first corner. While his competitors battled for second place, he built a solid advantage. Despite the high temperatures and physical demands of driving alone, he masterfully handled the challenge.

In the second race, Berrenberg seamlessly continued his strong performance. Starting from pole position, he dominated from start to finish. “With slightly cooler temperatures than the previous day, driving was more comfortable, which helped us maintain a consistent lead,” he explained after his second success of the weekend.

After four victories in the GTS class, Berrenberg leads the championship standings at the season’s halfway point with a 40-point advantage. Team Principal Daniel Schellhaas expressed his satisfaction with the performance: “Moritz has proven at both race weekends that he can drive not only fast but also consistently under various conditions. The decision to compete alone during the second weekend was bold and paid off. We’re optimistic about the second half of the season.”

“A big thank you to the entire team for their support and excellent preparation of the Porsche. The collaboration works brilliantly, and I’m looking forward to the upcoming races,” Berrenberg concluded.

The next race weekend will take place from June 20-22 in Zhuhai – Berrenberg’s home track, where he has the opportunity to secure the title early.
