A New Era: W&S Motorsport Moves to the 911 Platform for 2027

Three 911 models from one family, plus the proven Cayman, nine race series in Europe and Asia – and a clear focus on GT4 racing

Ofterdingen, 23 September 2026 – W&S Motorsport is aligning its programme for the 2027 season with the Porsche 911 platform. With the new 911 GT4 R, the new 911 Challenge and the 911 GT3 Cup, the team from Ofterdingen will field three cars from the same family, complemented by the proven 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport. The Cayman, the car with which W&S Motorsport became the most successful Porsche team in GT4 racing over recent years, thus makes way at the top for the next generation.

From the Cayman to the 911 – a platform the team already knows

The switch is the biggest change for W&S Motorsport since it entered GT4 racing. The team has taken more than 25 championship titles with the 718 Cayman GT4, among them three consecutive team championships in the ADAC GT4 Germany and titles in the GT4 European Series, the Nürburgring Endurance Series and China GT. After all those successful years, the timing is right: with the 911 GT4 R, Porsche is taking the GT4 programme to a new level – and W&S Motorsport is taking that step from day one.

The 911 platform is nothing new to the team. From 2022 to 2024, W&S Motorsport ran the 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3 Cup in the Nürburgring Endurance Series and at the 24-hour race. In the new Cup car’s very first NLS season, the team won the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring with Daniel Blickle, Tim Scheerbarth and David Jahn. And the Cup 911 remains a fixed part of the programme: in 2027, W&S Motorsport will field the 911-generation 911 GT3 Cup in Cup 1 of the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring, in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Deutschland and in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe. That know-how now feeds directly into running the 911 GT4 R.

The new 911 GT4 R is based on the road-legal 992.2-generation 911 GT3 and uses key body structures from the 911 Cup. Its 4.0-litre flat-six delivers up to 520 hp and is balanced to around 430 hp by an air restrictor. A sequential six-speed dog-ring gearbox, a four-plate racing clutch, wider tracks and further-developed motorsport electronics make it the most demanding GT4 Porsche to date. For young drivers that is a decisive advantage: anyone learning in the GT4 R is already training on the platform that continues into the 911 GT3 Cup and later into GT3 racing.

The 2027 line-up: four cars, three of them from the 911 family

For 2027, W&S Motorsport will field the following cars:

Porsche 911 GT4 R – the new centrepiece of the programme for the ADAC GT4 Germany, the GT4 European Series, the NLS, the GT4 Winter Series, the GT Summer Series and China GT.

Porsche 911 Challenge – the new entry-level model on a 911 base with 515 hp and a dual-clutch gearbox, positioned between GT4 and Cup; eligible from 2027 in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Deutschland and in Cup 2 of the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring.

Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (911) – for Cup 1 of the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring, the Porsche Sprint Challenge Deutschland and the Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe.

Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport – continuing in Cup 3 of the NLS, in the Porsche Sprint Challenge, in the Cayman Trophy of the GT4 Winter Series and as a training car.

W&S Motorsport is therefore consistently continuing along the path it has chosen, with a focus on GT4 racing. At the same time, the 911 platform and the new Porsche Sprint Challenge Deutschland make it straightforward for the team to run the 911 GT3 Cup and the 911 Challenge in parallel: technology, spare parts, data and car knowledge all come from the same family. For customers that means continued extreme performance in a clearly defined car category – from the entry point in the 911 Challenge through the GT4 R to the GT3 Cup, without ever changing platform.

The 911 Challenge plays a special role here. With its dual-clutch gearbox, road-car-like ergonomics and a pure circuit set-up, it is the ideal car for track-day customers who want more than driving on their own – and at the same time the perfect way into racing: anyone starting in the 911 Challenge at W&S Motorsport can obtain their racing licence in the very same car and contest their first races in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Deutschland or the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring. The path from track day to a first race start has never been shorter.

Nine race series in Europe and Asia

The 2027 programme covers nine race series:

Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) – in an anniversary year: 50 years of NLS, 100 years of the Nürburgring

ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring – 27 to 30 May 2027

ADAC GT4 Germany – as AVIA W&S Motorsport, on the DTM support programme

GT4 European Series – within the GT World Challenge Europe, including the 24 Hours of Spa

Porsche Sprint Challenge Deutschland – the new platform bringing together the Porsche Sports Cup Deutschland and the Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux

Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe – winter series in southern Europe

GT4 Winter Series – January to March 2027 on the Iberian Peninsula

GT Summer Series

China GT Championship – as Maxmore W&S Motorsport

In China, W&S Motorsport is continuing its commitment: after the triple title in 2025 in China GT and the SRO GT Cup, Maxmore W&S Motorsport will line up in 2027 with the new 911 GT4 R, aiming to build on the successes of the past two years.

A stage for drivers who want the next step

Few teams offer drivers such a continuous programme in 2027: the way in leads from a track day via a racing licence in the 911 Challenge or the Cayman in the Porsche Sprint Challenge and the GT4 Winter Series; the step up to international GT4 racing follows in the 911 GT4 R – and anyone who wants to go further finds the next level on the same platform in the 911 GT3 Cup in the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring and the Porsche Sprint Challenges. Every stage comes with the same team, the same engineers and the same data.

This is complemented by the W&S Driver Academy with its three pillars: Driver’s Skills (simulator, data analysis, trackside work), Driver’s Health (fitness, nutrition, mental training) and Driver’s Management (media training, sponsorship, career planning). That this path works is shown by the drivers who have gone from rookie to champion at W&S Motorsport in recent years – in the ADAC GT4 Germany, the GT4 European Series, the NLS and China GT.

The cockpits for 2027 are being allocated now. Drivers interested in a seat in the 911 GT4 R, 911 Challenge, 911 GT3 Cup or 718 Cayman GT4 can contact the team directly: info@ws-motorsport.de.

Reach for partners

For partners, the 2027 season is one of the most attractive in the team’s history. The ADAC GT4 Germany is broadcast live and on free-to-air television by SPORT1 and can be seen live or as a re-live in more than 90 territories worldwide; it runs exclusively on the high-reach DTM support programme and achieved a media reach of 355 million contacts in 2024.

In the first seven races of 2026, the Nürburgring Endurance Series counted almost 24 million livestream viewers and 214 million video views on social media; the series’ YouTube channel has more than 180,000 subscribers. The GT4 European Series runs within the GT World Challenge Europe on Grand Prix circuits such as Spa-Francorchamps, Imola and Barcelona. Added to that are the anniversary year at the Nürburgring, with 100 years of the circuit and 50 years of NLS, and a presence in the growing Chinese market.

With four car types in a single design language, W&S Motorsport also offers partners a consistent brand presence – from a sprint race at Hockenheim to the 24-hour race and on to Shanghai.

What the team principals say

Daniel Schellhaas: “2027 is a major change for us, but one we are thoroughly prepared for. From now on everything comes from the 911 family – and we know that platform inside out from the NLS and the 24-hour race. The Cayman brought us countless titles; now we have a thoroughly competitive new car that is modelled on the GT3. That makes the step much easier for young drivers, because they train on the right platform from the very beginning. We are hugely looking forward to writing the next success story with our partners and drivers.”

Patrick Wagner: “We are delighted to be able to line up with three new cars next year. With the new cars we will be competitive quickly, and we are already preparing intensively for the 2027 season. That brings a successful era with the Porsche 718 GT4 to a close in 2026. With the new 911 base, the GT4 R and the 911 Cup, we will be able to offer a broad range for anyone starting out in motorsport.”
