Shanghai, SRO GT Cup: For Moritz Berrenberg (#927), the weekend was an emotional rollercoaster — with a bitter déjà vu in Race 1 and an even stronger comeback on Sunday.
Race 1: From Class Pole to Fighting Back into the Points
Race 1 started in frustrating fashion. From class pole, Moritz showed strong pace and led the race confidently — a class win and a podium during the F1 event seemed within reach. Then came the setback: a sudden puncture forced an unscheduled pit stop and dropped him to the back of the field.
Still, Moritz refused to give up, pushed hard until the finish, and gained several positions. He ultimately finished P8 in class — important points saved, even though missing out on the podium after such a controlled start was, of course, disappointing.
Race 2: Strong Launch, Tough Battles — and a Class Win
On Sunday, Moritz turned the weekend around. Starting from P8 overall and P2 in class, he got a strong launch and passed three cars into Turn 1. That immediately put him into the class lead and right in the fight with the Silver drivers.
Intense battles followed, with plenty of position changes. At one point, Moritz was spun by a competitor, which cost him a position — but he stayed focused and fought back. At the chequered flag, he delivered a strong result: P5 overall and P1 in class. A clear turnaround after the disappointment of Race 1.
Quote of the Weekend
“Big thanks to Maxmore W&S Motorsport for giving me a very fast and reliable car once again — and for continuously supporting me in improving and unlocking even more performance.” Moritz Berrenberg
