W&S Motorsport at the Inaugural GT Summer Series in Hockenheim

With Alexander Danzer and Gökay Kulut sharing the Porsche GT4 #30

W&S Motorsport took part in the very first GT Summer Series weekend at the Hockenheimring. The team has previously competed in the GT4 Winter Series and is delighted that the successful format has now found a home in the summer as well. With Alexander Danzer and Gökay Kulut sharing the Porsche GT4 #30 in the AM class, the duo experienced an eventful weekend – topped off with a class victory.

A Special Weekend for Gökay Kulut

Even before the first race, Gökay Kulut wrote his own personal success story: he completed his racing-licence course on site at Hockenheim – and passed with flying colours. The DMSB issued the licence immediately, clearing the way for his race debut. An impressive start to his motorsport career, which Kulut handled with great composure and determination.

Qualifying

In the qualifying sessions, the duo delivered consistent performances. In Q1, Danzer and Kulut secured second place in class. In Q2 they followed up with third in class – a solid starting position for the three races of the weekend. Alexander Danzer in particular impressed in practice with consistent and fast lap times.

Race 1 – Alexander Danzer

The first race was held in wet conditions. Alexander Danzer mastered the difficult conditions with composure, running cleanly and faultlessly through the rain race, bringing the Porsche GT4 home in second place in class and 12th overall.

Race 2 – Gökay Kulut

Gökay Kulut took over for the second race – his very first race ever. He delivered a strong and mature performance, classifying initially in third place in class and 15th overall.

Race 3

The team unfortunately had to retire from the third race early due to technical problems. A frustrating end to an otherwise strong weekend – the team is analysing the cause and looks ahead with optimism.

Voices from the Weekend

Gökay Kulut looked back enthusiastically on his first race weekend: “It was an absolutely unforgettable weekend – my very first in motorsport. Doing the licence on site and then heading straight into the race was a special experience. In the test days we always ran in the dry – and then the first race was straight away in the rain. But everything worked out perfectly and the team supported me brilliantly. I had a huge amount of fun!”

Alexander Danzer was also pleased: “It went very well overall. We worked well together as a pairing and were able to deliver consistent performances. A big thank you goes to coach Hendrik Still, who supported us greatly throughout the entire weekend.”

Team manager Axel Randolph summed up: “Apart from the last race, it was, in my view, a successful weekend on which we can build. It was particularly nice to see how both drivers improved over the course of the weekend – above all Gökay, who sat in a race car for the first time on Thursday, earned his licence, and then delivered strong races at the end.”
