Overall victory and class wins for W&S Motorsport at home race in the GT4 European Series at Hockenheim

Start-finish victory for W&S Motorsport in the first race of the GT4 European Series at the Hockenheimring. Hendrik Still put the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport #30 on pole position in the first qualifying on Saturday and was able to pull away from the field after the start in the first race. He handed over the car to his team-mate Max Kronberg at the driver change with a lead of around four seconds. The latter also showed an impressive pace and was able to increase the gap to the competitors. After 27 laps, he crossed the finish line in first place and secured the team's first overall victory in the series.

The duo in the green RODOPI Porsche #30 rounded off the successful weekend with another class win in Pro-Am and third overall in Sunday's race. In the Pro-Am class championship standings, Max Kronberg and Hendrik Still rank third with 124 points.

Charles Dawson, who was back at the wheel of the Porsche Cayman GT4 #442 for the first time after his accident at the season opener in Monza, and his driver colleague Gustavo Xavier also had reason to celebrate in the second race. After starting from second place in the Am class, they defended their position to the finish and stood on the podium for the first time in the series. The day before, they finished fourth in class and collected more championship points.

Reigning Am champion Mikhail Loboda and his teammate Vasily Vladykin in sister car #31, who were making a guest start at Hockenheim, were involved in a collision with several cars towards the end of the race on Saturday through no fault of their own and were unable to finish the race. Thankfully, the driver was uninjured. Due to the damage to the car, they were unfortunately unable to take part in the second race, although they would have been in a good position from sixth on the grid and pole position in the Pro-Am class.

In Saturday's race, Taylor Hagler and Dakota Dickerson in the #32 were also running well and were in the top 10 and second position in the Pro-Am class when the American was hit by an opponent and had to stop the car. On Sunday, a technical problem on the car led to an early end.

In the Pro-Am team standings, the squad of Patrick Wagner and Daniel Schellhaas is in second place with 136 points ahead of the season finale in Barcelona (29.09.-01.10.2023).

Quotes after the race

Max Kronberg, Driver #30: "It was a fantastic weekend! We finished first twice in the Pro-Am and first overall - for the very first time in the GT4 European Series. We would never have expected that. Then on Sunday we were third overall again. The team did a great job, the car really was flying. Hendrik also did a great job, took pole position and had great speed in the race. It was the perfect weekend for us! I am very happy and looking forward to the next race."

Hendrik Still, Driver #30: "Unbelievable, what a weekend! For me it was very special. We have been working towards this for one and a half years and always just missed pole position. Now we finally got it! Then a start-to-finish win and an incredible job by Max. It was by far the strongest weekend we have had so far from both of us. It doesn't get any better than that!"

Charles Dawson, Driver #442: "It feels very good to be back after what happened at Monza. It was a solid race, the team gave us a very strong car for the weekend and we improved continuously. I learned a lot this weekend and I am really looking forward to Barcelona. Gustavo has done a great job and helped me all weekend to get the best out of me. It was a good job by everyone in the team, thanks for that!"

Julia Spacek, Team Manager W&S Motorsport: "It was an incredible weekend at the Hockenheimring. Our first overall win, third place overall, two wins in Pro-Am and second place in Am - a great success for the whole team! Despite the joy, there is also a crying eye, because unfortunately things didn't go so well for two of our four cars in the races. Mikhail and Vasily would have started from pole position in the Pro-Am class on Sunday and would have had good chances for a podium finish. But unfortunately, their car was so badly damaged in the multiple car crash on Saturday that it was not possible to repair it on site and they could not start on Sunday. Taylor and Dakota were also unlucky and couldn't finish the races, which is a shame because they also had a strong pace. Now we have to take the momentum and attack again in Barcelona to finish the season with a good overall result."
