On the fourth weekend of the ADAC GT4 Germany at the Nürburgring, AVIA W&S Motorsport was once again on the overall podium. Finn Zulauf and Josef Knopp in the AVIA racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport #31 finished third overall and also climbed onto the podium in the junior classification with second place.
The weekend began with free practice on Friday and everyone familiarised themselves with the race track. The new arrivals Tommi Gore and Senna Summerbell in the Jamaica Porsche #32 quickly found their way around and set the fastest practice time. In the two qualifying sessions they were also among the fastest drivers in the field, finishing fourth and tenth. Max Kronberg and Hendrik Still (#30) started from pole position on Sunday, just in front of their team colleagues Zulauf/Knopp (#31). Alon Gabbay and Tano Neumann (#9) both started races from ninth position.
The first race on Saturday was interrupted twice with the red flag due to heavy rain. In difficult conditions, the AVIA W&S Motorsport drivers proved their strength and were the fastest on the track. Unfortunately, Gore/Summerbell had to stop their car on lap 16 after a technical defect. Finn Zulauf and Josef Knopp finished in ninth place. Max Kronberg and Hendrik Still were eleventh, Alon Gabbay and Tano Neumann crossed the finish line in 15th position. Kronberg took his sixth victory in the Trophy classification ahead of Neumann in second place.
On Sunday, Zulauf and Knopp took third place overall and second place in the juniors and remain in a promising position in the battle for the championship. Alon Gabbay and Tano Neumann once again showed a strong performance with sixth place and Tommi Gore and Senna Summerbell were happy with their first top 10 finish in the fiercely contested GT4 racing series. Max Kronberg and Hendrik Still were 16th. Tano Neumann also finished second in the Trophy ranking, ahead of Max Kronberg in third place.
The team of Patrick Wagner and Daniel Schellhaas was once again the strongest Porsche team in the field and is in second place in the team championship. The racing team from Ofterdingen leads in the Junior and Trophy championships. In the drivers’ standings, Finn Zulauf and Josef Knopp are in second place, Max Kronberg and Hendrik Still are in sixth position, and Alon Gabbay and Tano Neumann are in 13th place. The next race will take place from September 27th to 29th at the Red Bull Ring.
Quotes after the race
Daniel Schellhaas, Team Principal AVIA W&S Motorsport: “It was not an easy weekend for us. Of course, we are happy about Finn and Josef’s third place, but we had hoped for more. We were the fastest in the rain and had a good pace all weekend. Unfortunately, we were a bit unlucky with a technical defect and a full-course yellow period, which prevented a better result. We will analyse the weekend and do everything we can at the Red Bull Ring to be at the top again.”
Tano Neumann, Driver #9: “After the successful race at the Norisring and our guest start with victory at the Hockenheimring in the GT4 European Series, we continue with sixth place at the Nürburgring. I am very happy and would like to thank W&S Motorsport, my teammate Alon Gabbay and our coach Marvin Dienst for their great work. I hope it continues like this in the last two race weekends at the Red Bull Ring and Hockenheimring!”
Finn Zulauf, Driver #31: “We had a strong pace all weekend and were the best Porsche team. Unfortunately, we were a bit unlucky in the first race, but in race 2 we were able to get a podium again. Many thanks to the team for the great work, the car was perfectly prepared! We will attack again at the Red Bull Ring and we want to keep the championship open until the end.”
Senna Summerbell, Driver #32: “What an incredible weekend! I have never felt so comfortable getting into a new race car and being able to push so hard from the start. My highlight of the weekend was fourth place in qualifying, which was great, and I wish we had had a bit more luck in the first race. I am already looking forward to the Red Bull Ring, I think we will be even better there. Many thanks for everything to the team!”
