W&S Motorsport is the new driver and team champion in the Pro-Am classification of the GT4 European Series 2024. At the season finale in Jeddah, Max Kronberg and Finn Zulauf drove to third place in the Pro-Am class in the second race, securing two more European championship titles for the team.

The weekend began with a setback for the racing team from Ofterdingen, who travelled to Saudi Arabia with a 15-point lead in the championship. After an accident in the first test session, the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport #30 was heavily damaged and missed two further test sessions. However, the team of Patrick Wagner and Daniel Schellhaas showed tireless commitment, managed to repair the car and sent it back out onto the track in time for the first free practice session on Thursday evening.

Max Kronberg and Finn Zulauf were able to finish third in the Pro-Am class despite losing time in the two qualifying sessions on Friday and created a good starting position for the final battle for the championship. Bad luck struck again in the first race on Friday evening. The #30 Porsche Cayman GT4 was again heavily damaged after an accident with an opponent through no fault of its own and dropped back to second place in the championship. Once again, the team did not give up and worked until the early hours of the morning to get the car ready to race again.

On Saturday afternoon, Kronberg/Zulauf started the final and decisive race of the season from third place in the Pro-Am and four points behind the leaders. Both drivers kept a cool head and crossed the finish line in third position in the class. This was enough to put them back at the top of the championship standings and crown them the new champions in the driver and team standings. W&S Motorsport had already been the drivers’ champion in the Am class in 2022 and now has a total of three European championship titles to its name.

Daniel Schellhaas, Team Principal W&S Motorsport: “It was a very difficult weekend for us in Jeddah. It was a new and extremely challenging track, a beautiful country and great organisation from the GT4 European Series. Unfortunately, we had an unlucky start to the season finale. We had to carry out a lot of repairs to the car after the two accidents, but the mechanics did a great job. We never gave up and kept fighting our way back. Nobody put their heads down and everyone pulled together. As a result, we were able to clinch our twelfth championship title this season. After the Am title in 2022, we have now won the Pro-Am title in the GT4 European Series. This shows that we are consistently at the front and we are very proud of that. We are looking forward to next season!”

Max Kronberg, Driver: “I am very happy about winning the Pro-Am championship. It is my third season in the GT4 European Series and I am delighted that it has finally worked out. We travelled here as leaders and then unfortunately dropped back after the accident in the first race. But we didn’t give up and gave it our all again to win the title. I am happy that we succeeded and would like to say a big thank you to the team. They always did a perfect job and the car was always perfectly prepared. Many thanks also to Finn for the great job. I am very happy about this season and am looking forward to next year!”

Finn Zulauf, Driver: “The last race weekend was a rollercoaster of emotions. But we made it and are Pro-Am champions! I am very happy about the success and would like to thank the whole team and Max for the great job they have done throughout the season. There were some ups and downs this weekend, but we managed to take another podium and win the European championship title!”
